Abstract

|
In the course of breeding new ornamental types of Hibiscus syriacus L., cross-pollination were made among introduced, native and tetraploid clones. The crossing possibility with H. rosa-sinensis was also examined.
Intraspecific crossing in H. syriacus (single×single, and single×double) showed considerable seed setting and germination irrespective of either native or introduced clones, but double×double combinations failed to germinate in spite of seed setting, Crossing diploid H. syriacus with H. rosa-sinensis was not possible regardless of their flower types, and tetraploids. H. syriacus×H. rosa-sinensis combination produced sterile seeds. Growth vigor of F₁ plants (native×introduced clones) showed no distinctive relation to their parents.
